As an example of what Eric is talking about, in terms of picking your low
strength cards by function, I do have 8 T3 crystal planets and a 8 T3
Dragon Eggs in my dragon deck. I keep a C3 Orbital Engineer and an A6
Dragon Rider in my reserve, so that I can combine the Crystal Planet with
the Egg. Each one of these I get in play is -1 damage to my fleet each
volley, and it can't be killed by weapons fire.
I'm affraid this trick won't work as you intend it to - the Orbital Engineer specifically says it allows a Planet to be played to a System or a Moon to be played to a Planet. Since the T3 Dragon Egg is neither a Moon nor a System it cannot be combined with the T3 Crystal Planet.

Unfortunately, there aren't many ways to defend Dragon terrain - 3x A7 Defended Territory and an A10 Artifical Landmass are your best bets (and will be easy to support with the other Dragon Ability cards you should stock). Lots of bases are also a must... oh yeah and all the promo Dragon terrains with their shields (if you can get any - I've only recently gotten my first).

EDIT: Oh, and 3x R/D6 Solar Dragoness' are a must too - play them in reaction to protect your Terrain from a killer blow.

Well now I can help you with that conflict.  try playing some crystal planets and some dragon eggs and any other strength four or less terrain out.  After you have at least 4+ surviving then play the ole H4 gravity well from Piracy.  rules are - played to any uncombined terrain    - ALL terrain in the affected fleet of equal or lesser strength than the gravity well are combined with that terrain.   - discarded after use...     This works well in any deck.   I once got a 24 strength terrain this way.

PS...can you repair terrain.. other than by special cards?

you can repair weapons damage to terrain, but not card damage.

another needless complication to the game.

I disagree....For instance....how do you repair a faultline after an earthquake
or replant a forest after a hurricane? I think differentiating between the
damage a terrain takes from weapons fire (structual damage to cities and
infrastructure) is very different than repairing damage caused by forces of
nature (monsters, hazards, etc). I think it ads another level of complexity
that ads flavor (and tactical) dimension to the game.

I have a problem with weapons damaging a planet to the point of
destruction. to the point where it's useless, maybe, but totally destroyed
with starwars special effects? that would have to be some special weapon.

Again...think creatively....maybe the planet is just 'nuked' so that it is no
loner able to sustain life or produce resources (trees incincerated...lakes
poisoned....minerals laden with raidioactive waste...) so maybe the planet
does not actually "blow up" ah la death star....but becomes useless and thus
discarded.

In regards to the earlier post by MogwaiSC....gravity well is a great card for
protecting small terrain....The best planet protector in the game is an R/H7
Stellar Gas Cloud....you can play it in reaction...it makes the planet and all
cards on it immune to weapons fire and monsters. It takes 14 research to
get rid of it... Great defensive card....Also...R/T2 Camo worlds are
great....and so are R/B8 Castle Rognar.

Thinking creatively, a 'nuked' planet could be revived (terraformed) and still
should be able to at least support orbital bases. Other than Sahnadrei's
extremely ludicrous weapon, I don't see a weapon powerful enough to do
more than a nuking.

-On combining terrain to 20-plus strength, make sure you have a terrain in hand or reserve in case of that time spindle L card. Can make that big ol' stack go away quickly.....Lobo
