The card reads:

-When played this card allows the owning player to discard any one card played or in play against the fleet.

If a pirate ship is against a planet of the owner of this card, can he remove the ship if it has a crew on it, or, is it prevented because two cards would be removed?

Yes it also says does not block card actions and discard after use

According to the rules, it would allow you to discard the ship. Any cards that are on the ship would be discarded due to the ship no longer being there.

It was something that needed to be fixed, to make pirating more viable, but there was never a fix.

There is a card that allows you to pull your pirate ship back.

Does this card allow you to discard a shuttle or other such craft performing a there and back mission? Does a there and back actually move against the fleet, or is it just a card action?
