Greets all!
Ok, so, people need to know about the rules variants and restrictions for the Quarterly Tournaments I'll be hosting starting in '08, so here they are.
No Deck size limit (Hey, if you can shuffle a 400 card deck, by all means, pack up the forklift and come on down)
Reactionary World is Prototype (And you all know what that means)
Proxies are allowed, but with the following hitch: Deck stocking a Proxy will be the same as stocking an Entity; 1 Proxie per 25 cards of deck. A 200 card deck may have a maximum of 8 proxies. This is my compromise.
All GE base level Terrain only takes half damage from weapons fire. It still takes full damage from cards however. (ie: Cards that damage terrain still do it at a 1-1 ratio.) This only applies to Terrain the company released in sets, but doesn't included Promos that didn't have the half damage rules.
No restrictions on Promo Cards: If you want your whole deck to be promo cards, by all means, knock yourself out.
Prize for the first Meet: This is a Masters Level Event, single elimination, single round. Up for grabs is a T/B-10 Vektrean Asteroid Flagstar!
Entry Fee: $10.
Rules changes concerning various cards: After consulting with Verc on the R/O-3 Instant Reaction, this is where we stand with it: Taking each rule line as it was intended, the card works like thus:
-Played to a Reaction card in play in the fleet. -This card may only be played once each phase. -The
reaction card may use use its functions in reaction mode, moving to any
location in the fleet. -Any
reaction card may only be used in reaction once each complete turn.
{Definition: Once you play a card in Reaction, you cannot Instant React
it to "Top Stack" the card. If you volley, and I react with a UT, and
then you react with a Time Skip against the UT, that chain is finished.
I cannot IR the UT, because it has already REACTED this turn.}
R/C-9 Temporal Engineer: With regards to Instant Reaction, the Engineer can be Instant Reacted (As long as he wasn't played in reaction on the same turn he is being instant reacted) and then moved to another location in the fleet. You DO NOT draw anymore cards however. Also, if you play him in reaction to a volley, if the volley is enough to destroy his location, you have two choices: Discard him to ignore the volley, or let him and the ship be destroyed. Sound weird? Too many people use his ability to draw two cards, in reaction to the weapons fire, AND THEN use one of those cards just drawn to save the ship (usually some luck card or similar) This is NOT allowed. Once you've drawn your cards, that reaction chain is broken, and you cannot go back and react with something else.
Hope to see a lot of you at the first Quarterly Meet. The date is set at the second weekend of January. This will be Saturday, January 12, 2008.

OK. I'll bite. Will make the trek from MA with Rob in January if you know you'll have at least 8 players.
Will have to experiment with the Proxie limit. I only own 1 deck and have little latitude for change. Will see what it does to the design.

The safe thing to assume about the proxies is that it isn't set in stone. Wolf tends to make pronouncements before he's discussed it with anyone, really thought about it, or had time to get any feedback. Please see the topic he posted on the 'Power Nine of GE' as reference that it goes back and forth.
Of course, he could see this post and get pissed at me for talking like this and decide to get obstinate, in which case you're SOL. ;)
We'll see.

Hey, pack them into the car like sardines. :) Once the posted instructions are up, they're up and that is set in stone.
The weekly game keeps fluctuating because of the desires of those attending. Now that we have established who will be attending, the rule of the day is now just the Rule.
Period.
And no, I'm not mad or annoyed at you Verc. Welcome to America, where everyone has an opinion and the right to voice it.

Hmmmmmm. That’s going to be a problem then. Just went through my deck: 31 Proxies out of 160 cards. Might be able to part with a few but to knock down to 8 would render it useless, not to mention no fun to play. At least not enough to spend 8 hrs in a car and pay a few hundred bucks for a hotel/gas/food anyway.
Half of my proxies are terrain, so we may have common ground there. I don’t have access to other cards but maybe can borrow some. Will look around here at what my options are. If you’re playing they take halve damage, that opens up a lot of possibilities.
The rest, well… maybe could get it to 16.
I’m certain the rest of the MA group are in the similar boat. Elmer may even play with more proxies than me.
Sure we can’t sway you in the interest of attracting new blood?
Maybe 2 tournaments: 1 with and 1 without proxies??
Or maybe another gathering altogether on another date. Perhaps meet in middle in CT?
BTW – read one of your other posts: I do play with my War Vet. Not because it’s such a powerful entity, but because I earned it. And I can. ;)

Oh, and while I’m taking the liberty of asking for things:
:)
Any chance you’d consider playing without spy capabilities. We all have the cards, so we all end up looking at everyone’s hands. Might as well play with the cards facing up. Much less strategy or diplomacy. Takes the surprise out of it, and in my humble opinion, the fun out of it.
But, hey, just my opinion. And it is you party.
Cheers!

well first of i think the limitations are fair for the most part. As for the proxy limit if you dont hink it will destroy your chances of playing, post them up and see if you get any offers. Of course if you can place your and others in your group and maybe you can all benefit from different directions.

And don't rule anything out. As I have said countless times now, I am VERY reasonable when it comes to cards for sale or trade. More so then anyone I have ever had to deal with.
Send me a list via PM of the cards you are trying to Proxy, and an Address where I can send cards to, and I'll see if I can help you out.
That goes for everyone, not just the New England crew.

Wait! Hold the typing!! I’m a bit rusty with GE and a little distracted today. It’s been a while. I was thinking promos, not proxies. I have all original cards. No proxies. Was thinking only 8 promos allowed. No fun. Your responses make more sense now. Sorry for the confusion.
Seems a gathering of the states is all the more likely!

No, not Promos. Hell, your deck can be 100% promos for all I care. Proxies are my only issue.
But that issue has been settled, so here's to seeing you all in January.

Good. The standing rules are still standing.
