-Howdy all. I think i understand the idea of pumping energy into the EMF to make it twice the number of the Strength. But my basic question is: Is that energy-enhanced number the total strength of the card or just the "shields"?

In other words, does my S7 Mechad ship have 14 "shield" strength and 7 structural strength at full power or just 14 EMF strength period? The wording in the rules is not clear on this point.

Thanks in advance, have a good one.....Lobo

The mecad ship in question has 7 structure and then may add 7 each turn to its emf until it reaches 14

Don't know if Aramax's answer is clear enough for you.

let us know and we will try to reword it.

-Yeah, it looks like he just restated the vague language in the rules ;^)

I guess it would help if i made the question a bit clearer as well but i am not sure if i can as i don't totally understand the mechanic.

I had typed up a long response to this but i ended up confusing myself. For illustration purposes, maybe i just need you guys to tell me the answer to this multiple choice question:

IF i have an S7 Mechad ship, depending on the number of nodes, am i limited to:

A) putting in enough energy to "activate" the EMF at a strength of 7 (7 energy into a one-node ship), thereby making the total strength of the ship 14 for purposes of destroying it; OR

B) putting in enough energy to "activate" the EMF at a strength of 14 (double the printed strength, i.e. 7 energy into a two-node ship) thereby making the total strength 21 (7 Structural and 14 EMF).

I hope that is clearer, at least replying with simply "A" or "B" is less typing! Thanks in advance, have a good one.....Lobo

I thought it was that each node multiplies each energy point put into it.
That is, an S7 with two nodes can be allocated 7 energy, which produces
and EMF strength of 14.

I don't play Mechads though, so I'm not sure if that is correct. Just my
speculation trying to be helpful.

EMFs are like shields that don't stop anything except weapons damage. This means transporters get through them and shield fiends don't make them go away (unless they mention EMFs, I don't recall).

Lobo -

the answer to your question is B.
The limit on an EMF is twice that of the printed structure strength. An S7 can have 14 EMF. If the ship has two nodes, you only need to supply 7 energy, but if the ship only has one node, you would need to supply 14 energy.

The good thing about them is that you don't need to repair them. Problem is, needing that much resources, (even energy) is wasteful. Why not generate economy instead, and you can use it for other things than just energy.

White Dwarf promo card is a very useful card to have for this deck.

For EMF though, you must allocate the energy every turn to receive the benefit whereas shields are always there unless damaged of course.

Isn't there a rule that says the EMF can only increase by the value of the ship's strength each turn? So that if you let the EMF on a S7 drop to 2 then you can only have an EMF of 9 on the next turn and then 14 on the second turn following?

correct. each turn you may increase the total value by no more than the strength of the ship.

I am pretty sure the EMFs stay charged unless someone damages the ship.

I'm pretty sure the Mechad E8 card more than makes up for resources spent through energy. ;)

negative, the EMF must be recharged each turn.
