Any advice on how to start playing this game?
Should I concentrate on getting Set II Primary Cards first and build decks before moving to expansions?
Everyone seems to have a number of the very hard to find promos, any
advice on finiding these cards other then on ebay? Are these cards
actually better when playing a game?
Any idea how many factions there are in all?
Thanks

Start with Set II Primary boosters or Set U Universe boosters. Universe Starters are also pretty decent, though you won't need more than 1-2 of each empire (less if you buy a lot of boosters). There are 4 major and 4 minor empires in the Primary Edition (2-3 of the minor can hold their own with just the cards in PE); there are 8 major and 3 minor empires in Universe (only 1-2 of which can hold their own with the cards in UE).

It's either eBay or contact the people who still have stockpiles of these cards, all of whom that I'm aware generally sell on eBay occasionally anyway.

Check out my website, I've got scans of just about every card ever printed. There are 17 major empires, 11 minor empires, 17 different Indirigan Tribes (which are minor empires, and not all of which have enough ships to truly stock a deck), and 7 Allied empires (which count as minor empires)

To start, I would reccommend (sp?) primary set II to start. They are the cheapest and are the best base set for the price, but stay away from the primary starter 50 card decks A and B. If money is not the biggest problem then I would sugest Universe boosters, most of the cards in primary are repeated in Universe except for the entities(strength 10 ) cards and a few of the weaker cards....but the universe cards do have a few errata corrections. Expansions that can strengthen the game for moderate money are time gates, piracy and powers of the mind all of which have cards that are used in many base tournament decks but on thier own are difficult. New empires is rare but most are in the universe expansion. Allied Forces, Advance Tech and Galactic Invader expansions are very good but go for nearly $200 a box when they are found on ebay. Promo cards are very helpful. The Indirigian tribes are inor tribes that help your Major empire ships and The Promo terrains are typically stronger since many of them have planetary shields and immunity to certain card types.
