Whats your choices?

The Scorp are always near the top of most peoples list?

But what about the Defencive potential of the Leopan?

I always leave the Traonans off the list because of the lack of heavy weopons.

And Coucil of Six are awesome in that they are immune to Time Skip and

Crincletimeline.Whats your choice?

Co6 are pretty devastating, but the Gray Death Tribe is tough too... they
have an S7 and an S5 that both take half damage to their structure from
weapons fire, plus they have all those built in transporters for crew
attacks. I use them as my minor empire in my Vektrean crew-attack deck.

For sheer firepower, Scorpies are definitely up there... in my Scorpy deck I
have at least 18 ships of S7 or better that can dish out at least 18 pts of
phaser damage each a turn... For that deck I keep a Comet of Lore in my
reserve, and pair up two more each with a ship of the ancients, so that I
can use the magnifier sharing ability of the comet on the ship of the
ancients...

I'll add Zedan's to the list... I'm currently putting together a ZDI/Shon-ti/
Garshain Tribe fleet for a ZDI deck. Lots of weapons fired in reaction...

I'll also nominate the Bolaar... An S8 Bolaar flagship with an E8 Bolaar
phaser capacitors and an E9 Future Ship is pretty disgusting. :D Not to
mention they can use foreign tech...

In duels I have seen mechads, dragons and the comedy club make strong
showings. And I have been told that the Psi empires are powerful ;)

In multiplayer I have seen that the style of the player matters at least as
much as the empire. Didn't a Tufor take the championship one year?
Without using mines? Normally I would consider Tufor a weak empire -
especially without their mines.

I think one idea discussed near the end was that of imperial rankings with
the results leading to periodic reclassification of major, minor, allied,
generic and retired(?) races. (Anyone object to retiring the filarians?)

when you play multi player all the time like I do you come to realize you are right the deck matters less than your social skill at playing the 'table'

Most powerful? Probably Gekos.

For those of us who haven't seen the Gekos played why are they so powerful?

they easily have 1.5 times the number of weapons that a ship of their size usually have. To compensate for this we gave them twice the engagement cost, and no shields.

Well, with the advent of the promo terrain, resource deprevation is no longer a strategy that most people can use.

So, there is now an abundance of resources for them to engage.

They still have no shields, but keeping a ship alive is a problem for every empire.

Simply, Gekos have more firepower than any other empire. Scorps can outgun them close with refits and Lores, but base firepower Gekos have more than anybody.

Interesting... I'd always looked at their lack of shields as a diluting factor in deck efficiency. In order to play them I'd have to include cards to compensate for their lack. Why not just play a ship with shields included and use the card you'd protect the Geko with for some other meaningful reason?

In my experience GE fleets typically consist of one or two really hard units which the player defends with cards, card plays, and other ships. While the rest of his fleet is allowed to suffer so that the 'core' ships remain healthy and dangerous. In this theory you want the 'core' ships to have the most 'bang' for your buck and the Geko's increased weapon density certainly seems to play to that idea.

I'll have to put a deck together to experiment with this idea.

Lobo, allow me to introduce you to the Gekos. Gekos meet Mr.Lobo.

:P

LOLOL!... Scorps and Gekos....

Apparently, no one has ever had a Mechad Juggernaught with an E-9 Ship refit Cat-Rep on their fleet before...

Fleet? What Fleet??

:)
