-Howdy all. I didn't take notes at our booster draft last evening (just like last time) but wanted to report on how it went.
Ships. That's how i won. I ignored anything tangential and drafted ships up to strength 6. Was able to snag a couple of Krebiz capsules in the draft (those things are actually quite useful in our format and the packs we're using) but gave up a couple of strong Luck cards to do so. Initially Galaktische thought i was nuts to pass the Luck cards, and 99 out of 100 times he'd be right. But that was only part of it.
I wasn't seeing any Monster cards or Hazard cards in the piles i was passing up, so i didn't worry so much about drafting hi-point terrain (because i brought the backups same as before) to protect form destruction. What i was seeing was useful crew. C3 Engineer (yep, i said it, useful) and C5 Mutineer in particular. I snapped up the Mutineer and it turned out to be one of the two plays that won me the game.
I only saw one command-point generating card all draft, a crew card, so i had to take that. But the other play that kept me in it for the long hauls was a piece of equipment. I saw an E3 Cargo out there and thought that'd be a great way to shore up some of my lower-point ships (like the 4 or so Krebiz capsules i drafted) so i plucked it up. I was able to place it on one of my early draw and plays, an S4 Local Police Ship, and it kept it in the game for a few turns longer that it should've been since my opponent couldn't muster enough to destroy it and it's 6 phasers without my ability to repair. So he targetted my smaller ships with much less phaser power.
The one card i drafted that i thought would be crucial and one of the keys to winning i never actually played to the table. I drafted it, stuck it in my reserve fleet, switched for it on turn 1, but in my hand is where it stayed. The D1 Scintillating Dragoness.
If Galaktische would have drafted it, i wouldn't have been able to beat him with the other cards i drafted without a concession. As i said, i didn't see any Hazard or Monster cards that could get rid of it. Turns out Galaktische did draft a couple of hazards, but thankfully it didn't factor into the game.
Had fun, i think we're going to give it one more go next week. I opened up three packs last night after i got home due to boredom, and i think i'll be including one of the cards i pulled into our draft stack for a right proper send off. Talk later, have a good week.....Lobo
