Ok...here is the exact card text:

Unit Overhaul
Adds the following to a ship or base:
- A maximum of 3 of any point type
may be added to a ship. Bases are not
limited.
-Adds 2 shields (or one node on a Mechad unit)
2 heavy weapons
2 phasers

Now here is my question, for the first card function can I add 3 points to
my strength or boost either the shields up to 3 or heavy weapons or
phasers beyond the two already added at the bottom of the card?

Also...the card clearly shows 2 nodes at the top of the card...is that a
missprint or is the one node reference a typo and should read (two
nodes)?

We have played that this card adds 3 to the strength of the ship, adds two
heavy weapons and two phasers and two shields (or one node).

What does everyone think about that?

The first "function" is not a function, it is a rule which limits the later rules/additions on the card. That is, it is stating that the Unit Overhaul, combined with other cards, may only grant a maximum of 3 phaser, heavy weapon, shield, or node points.

If you look on the Shield Refit, Heavy Weapon Refit, Phaser Refit, Distribution Nodes, and other similar cards you'll note that they have a similar rule on them refering to the specific type of point they're granting; e.g.:
"Shields are limited to 3 additional points from multiple refits. Bases are not limited."

The first rule on the Unit Overhaul is simply a more general restating of those other rules. It does not grant "3 of any point" to the ship it's played on.

As for the Node points, I believe the text is correct; Mechads only recieve one Node point, not two. This is a similar grant of power to two shield points.

There is FAQ somewhere regarding the nodes.

Eric,

Yeah....I saw that on the other cards...I considered that all of the ship
upgrade cards were printed in the same run...for that reason I thought
maybe the E9 was trying to say something different than the E1 and E2 ship
upgrades. Ohhhhh welllll. I really liked having a strength 12 Mechad
Juggernaught....I guess it is going to take a few more card plays to get it
back up to that strength!!! :)

The easy solution to this would have been to recognize that the E9 is a
Unit Overhaul, NOT a Ship Upgrade...

:P
