I'm in the PotBS open beta and it seems a little meh...
Sailing from one location to another is pretty dull. The missions are very economic so far. If you like the auction houses and keeping up with what is 'good' and how to make it I think it has potential. If it becomes a hit it will certainly have a complex economic side.
The ship to ship combat is interesting and playably realistic. I got stuck on a reef while trying to protect a another small ship in a training mission and I found that to be a nice tactical feature. I've fought one engagement at night in a rainstorm and I really liked the way that looked.
The biggest issue I have is the inane travelling I must do to get my missions. I meet a contact in building (load screen) then she gives me the outline of the mission but wants to meet me in 'her' office before she'll tell me the rest (load screen), then she tells me to meet her back outside and she'll give me the 'Blue Duke' or whatever I need (load screen) to do the mission... meh.
The game is a bit of a hog. They advertise that it will run on a 1.5Ghz machine with middling euipment but my machine struggles to run it. My wife's machine is much newer and runs it pretty smoothly
I haven't completely written it off yet but it'll have to be MUCH better to stay on my machine once the next school semester hits.
