I've been thinking about this... since they don't have shields, crew attacks on
their crew and particularly equipment, would be effective against them,
especially since they're very dependent on E class cards. Of course, not
against any location with an Overlord, but you can't have them everywhere...

I was just trying to think of other ways as well, and looking for any
suggestions.

There are lots of different ways to do crew attacks against. The T8 Aesthetic Marine Depot comes to mind, which can completely take apart any Mechad fleet with the right crew on board.

Anything with a Cloning Device and Osilliating Transporter spells doom.

The group I play with has banned the T8 Marine Depot. I have managed to
get four of them, and all you have to do is put one and a Marine in your
reserve, and you pretty much kill everyone else in the game. It's pretty
much a broken card. However, I have used a cloning device and a
oscillating transporter in my reserve for my Vektrean deck, which is a crew
attack deck (I have Garshain Indirigans as the minor empire) which has done
quite well as a crew attack deck.

Against Mechads though, you don't even need the oscillating transport. Any transport will do. I might recommend looking at some of the Nobles for 'leet' crew attack stuff.

I have a few Nobles actually... though not the good ones that do crew attack
things, but I have a source I can get some from, so I'll check it out.

Aren't the Nobles their own Empire and thus hard to build a deck around? At least I've never seen one used before...

-At least you're one up on me. I've never even seen a Noble card before. And to keep this on point, if the EMF counts as an "armor system" there's always that L2 that disables armor systems for a turn. If it's not an armor system, pretend i said that works great against Leopan instead...

I'm pretty sure EMFs are EMFs, not armor systems. They have 'nodes.'

There's an equipment that makes whatever ship you zap with it require 3x the energy engagement cost the next turn. E6 Destabilization Gun? I -think- it's some corporate foreign tech. That would be sexy on 'chads.

-T6 Black Holes take 3 energy. The card indicates that it takes 3 natural energy first if available. If it can't get 3 natural energy out of the thing, then economy used as energy will feed it.

The wording doesn't seem to allow you to take the economy points as is, however. So i imagine the function of that particular terrain card would play out more like a reaction in preventing the economy from being used as energy only, not draining the output entirely.

It's not clear on this point, but i imagine the T1 microscopic one works in much the same way. Played against the fleet, if the fleet has nothing but economy in order to use energy they have to feed their first one to that terrain....Lobo

-For purposes of the Black Hole, it doesn't matter. The wording on the card makes that an easy answer. Various cards draw a distinction between "natural energy" and other. When the economy point is declared used as a certain other type of resource, a fair interpretation would be that it has become that resource, it is just not naturally so.

To say that the economy is still economy even when being used as a supply point doesn't make sense. And the cards that affect such things don't seem to indicate that's the way it is intended, but obvioulsy there isn't an official word on it.

Bottom line: Black holes still work against economy as an effective energy-draining idea, and if i am playing a game my vote would be that economy is economy until declared it is used as something else. Then it becomes that something else for that short time. This would potentially leave economy terrain vulnerable to Shipping Delays, Black Holes, and other nasties, but to rule otherwise would seem unfair and give an advantage to economy points above the already obvious flexibility advantage. And that's just...well...unfair.....Lobo
