B10 Science Academy
8S 6Ph - Monsters may not affect the fleet. Provides 6 Research
vs.
C10 Spiritual Leader 4Y -All crew in the fleet are 2 points stronger. -All other crew at
location (or 1 crew elsewhere) can perform 1 function twice each turn.
-Allows all opponent monsters to be damaged by research or phaser fire.
In terms of an entity that serves as an all-purpose monster-negator, which is better? Is a B10 harder to kill or protect than a C10? The C8 Spiritual Leader's function is similar to the C10, so would the B10 be more useful to support it?
A key factor in GE is control. The ability to stop an entire category of cards from effecting your fleet is amazing (See: War Prophet during the Weapons Fire phase) These cards both allow you to control monsters, but which is better?

Why not go for both? My Corporate deck is a monster killing deck; I have
the B10 and the C10 in it. I typically put an E10 Subspace Stabilizers on
the B10 to make it tougher to kill, and the C10 and both C8's on B7
Spiritual Temples, so they're hard to kill with crew attacks.

The idea, I guess, is to define which card is better for shutting down monsters. If you only had one entity/exception slot open, which would you rather stock?
I have both in my deck right now, but the B10 is an exception and an entity in it. Is the B10 worth it on its own, or only when coupled with other bases?

My general philosophy it to build decks around a theme, so I generally try
to get as much of that kind of thing into a deck as I can.
I would say it would be better to go with the C10; you don't take up an
exception slot, and it's comparatively easier to protect because you can
park it on something like a Spiritual Temple on a Military Reservation, and
make it really hard to kill by both crew attacks and weapons fire that way.
That's generally what I try to do with a Spiritual Leader.

B-10 vs C-10...
Well, the B-10 cost the Empire a bundle every time they turned the damn lights on, let alone sending it to stomp on the Feds...
Oh, sorry, wrong B-10... :)
Anyway, the Science Academy is a better bet then the crew card. It takes 18 points of weapons fire to kill, it can be repaired, and it can shoot back. The C-10 is a crew card which means any Marine can send him packing to the discard pile, where only a Time Portal (assuming he is on top) or a Distress Beacon can recover him.
Just my Opine..

That's why I always try to get him on a Spiritual Temple on a Military
Reservation... half damage from all weapons and immune to crew attacks.

Too many problems with that. You have to draw him, THEN have a Spiritual Temple in play, AND on a Military Reservation.
You're banking on too many "IFs". Just run the B-10 and his three little brothers, the B-7's.

For my Corporate deck, which has spiritual leaders and temples in it, I
typically put a B7 Spiritual Temple and a T5 Military Reservation in my
reserve. Problem solved.

You guys are getting a little off track... the idea is which one stops monsters the most by itself while having the fewest drawbacks. A lot of good points have been raised, so far I think it's in favor of the base.

The B-10 says it best: Monsters may not affect the fleet. Period.
The C-10 only negates the monsters effects, and then allows you to wish it away with research or blast it with weapons fire.
Base wins, since I can use my weapons to blast my opponents ships/bases etc instead of shooting at monsters.

each has its advantages. The one you play depends on your own style.
