-No notes. I had an old judge who taught moot court in law school that was amazed i could conduct opening/closing statements, cross-examination of witnesses, etc without notes. I wasn't as good as he made me out to be, but i was good. That was before i found the miracle that is Guiness and my memory went into the crapper. So, if i had been writing this booster draft report say 7 years ago i would remember every last detail. Now...

I included an S10 Indirigan Big Bad F-in Ship into our draft piles as i had pulled it from a pack i opened out of that box while bored one night. Galaktische got it. It hit the table early. I almost conceded right then.

I was able to destroy it thanks to an O2 Natural Disaster, a couple of Hazards, and some strong phasers that kept it damaged long enough without repair points for me to drop it. My resources were about spent doing that, though, and it took awhile to get there. Even after i got rid of the Big Bad, i still eventually lost my S4 Police Ship and S6 Bolaar battlecruiser as i didn't have the repair to keep them up. Then i pulled my L9 Lost Fleet and brought them back.

Galaktische didn't recover from that, and they provided me enough firepower to make it to the end. I know i am missing a lot here so if you're interested maybe Galaktische can fill in the holes.

We also tried 40-card deck challenge. I hade made a 100-card Filarian deck a couple weeks ago and realized i'd never play it against my opponent as it felt too slimy to me. So i whittled it down to 40 cards. Galaktische brought a Bolaar Patrol Ship deck and it thoroughly trounced the Filarians.

I would have been able to make a go of it if i had stocked Patrol Ships as well, but i used a couple Ships from the Future (that netted me quick strikes on Sector HQ but nothing sustained) and a couple of S2 Police Cutters. In the end, the renewable Patrol Ship resource was too tough to deal with.

I was able to get Research Defiler Monsters on the table both games to protect the infesters, but in the end i don't think any 40-card deck could really get enough research to be much of a threat anyway. In retrospect i should have switched those out for a full 5 sexy web crawlers or perhaps something to stall out the patrol ships but keep them on table. Not sure if there are low strength ways of doing so, but ah well.

I had a hard time in the second game drawing crew to infest anything with. I stocked Terrain Attack Shuttles for the transport, C1-C5 crew (including a Mutineer that became ante one game) and 4 of the A2 Infesters. First game i got a patrol ship infested and it lasted on my side a few turns, but his Patrol ships just kept coming back so i never could square up with him and certainly couldn't get an advantage. I'm glad i tried them but i'll be putting the infesters up for a good long while.

Thanks for reading, have a good week.....Lobo

Filarians have a few key cards.

One that allows you to take control of an opponent ship remotely. Another that allows you to infest an opponent crew.

Both of these are high level cards.

Could you create a deck with the Pys. as a minor empire and still get the use of their powers?

according to the rules of the game? no. Psys are a major empire.

But, if you wanted to home-brew something. Go for it.

Biegel are you talking with a 40 card deck?  If so, the problem with filarians and psys in small decks is that they need 2 cards to amke what other empires can with 1 card.  Ergo ships versus psys/filarian.  the psys needs a location to be played to and a field to make full use of and the filarian needs a location and a character.

Okay .Now you got me started! As a young gentlebiker I followed the Carney trucks around the great New England States on my 1972 Honda 450 Scrambler. The one thing I learned from the old Carney that ran the show was that the odds don't lie. At the end of the show your adverage will be there if you ran the game honestly.( That meant don't try to short the Boss)I have seen the last day when I was short 25 prizes and before the end of the day the odds made it right. Well The same is true here. The rules of the game dictate the odds. Now if we want to allow the lesser decks to have a chance we must modify the rules to give them a chance. What I would like to hear is the best way to go about this. If We on this site can create alternative rules that allow the lesser Fleets and races to compete with a fair chance we will have solved one of the main problems with the game. Alot of players have pet likes of certain races. When they create a deck of them and play them, They become frustrated at loseing so easy and put their cards away never to play agin.Being nothing is written in STONE why don't we create a concensus of varied rules to accomadate the troubled fleets.
