How exactly does this card work? Does she have to do a there-and-back? Or can she squish 'em from a safe distance?
-As a reaction, destroys any monster of equal of lesser strength.

-I have a peripheral (rookie) question. I found a definition for "there and back missions" in my copy of the rules as when your crew relocates to an opponent's location (i assume base/terrain) to perform a function then returns to home turf. My question is, does the crew just hop on a ship and get dropped off? Do you have to blast through your enemy's ships to make it to the base or is it a free walk?
Oh, and to attempt an answer to your query, if you posted the entirety of the ability you had a question about, a literal reading would seem to indicate a there and back is not required, the rule allows the card to function as a reaction. My question would be does the card then get discarded as a reaction after using its ability.
Thanks in advance, have a good one.....Lobo

i would think that the super model would have to be at the location whether it be the planet, system or if the monster is played to the fleet then yes. But I would argue if the super model is on Planet Jpahnar while a M1 setaran web crawler was attacking your ship on planet Chronos, I would say no(personal opinion considering the models wording). But either way I would also rule she is not discarded as it does not state she is( see R/C4 trophy hunter as example of discarding). Imagine a supermodel in an A7 Improved automaton = C8 supermodel killing monsters as a reaction.
As for there and back missions, I am pretty sure that some mode of transportation is required, eg transporter, shuttle, fighter etc.
The location may be terrain, base or ship.
I am not sure but Ithink shields must be down(real fuzzy on this).
And as for it being a free walk, yes, unless the other player plays a reaction card to your play, such as transporter malfunction, shuttle explosion, etc

We've never played that a supermodel needs transportation. There isn't
anything on the text of the card that indicates it's necessary.
The R/C1 Supermodel is one of the few CC cards we allow. I pair one up
with an R/A9 Accidental Evolution; I've used that combination to kill a
Zaggoth Mordeth before as well...
Of course, this is exactly why we've banned many of the CC cards.

I concur with MogwaiSC. She's probably my favorite C1, aside from the Bar Tender.

No, the Supermodel does NOT need transportation. She can affect any monster out there.
For a better understanding on how There and Back missions work, check out the Galactic Fire (#2, i believe) issue on this site. Located in the Media section.

OK. She does seem a bit overpowered. (I'm surprised she doesn't have some 'issues' to balance out.)

Like I said, this is an example of why the group I play with has banned
most CC cards.

Yeah, but i don't understand why.
The Supermodel is only a strength 1, and can only effect strength 1 Monsters by herself. If you add another card to her to boost her strength, you are effectively using two cards, to counteract one of your opponents cards. (not that efficient).
Plus, she is a crew card, and if your deck can't handle crew cards you're screwed anyway.
ABout the only one of CC cards that I would ban is the Time Accelerant, and not because it is too powerful, but because it causes too many questions. A lot of grey areas that are simply not covered by any rule.

Here's why: in our group, if you get something like a Zaggoth Mordeth in
play, it's going to wreak havoc... play a breeder to it, or a perfect
specimen, etc., not to mention something like that is simply crying to have
a C4 Mad Scientist paired up with it so you can pull it out of your discard
pile, and you have to do anything you can to keep it from getting into
play.
Also, your logic about it taking two of my card plays is mistaken, since I
play the supermodel and the accidental evolution in reaction on the other
players turn, not mine. While it does take two cards out of my hand, they
don't get discarded, and can be used repeatedly on other montsters
played against me.

Well, the thing is, a Supermodel's ability can be used every turn. Cards like that are always useful. If she negates one good card, she's paid for herself, even if it requires three cards.
Keep in mind there are terrains that would boost her strength, as well as other cards that boost the strength of all crew in your fleet. I always stick a Galactic Trade World in my reserve fleet, so she's never less than a C3 when she hits play.

Yeah, but there are hundreds of ways to combat crew. Make her go insane and she will attack her own fleets Monsters. A Marine, etc. etc. etc. I could make a long, long list.
Not to mention, she is a dead card in your hand if I'm not playing any Monster cards.
Useful. Yes.
Broken. No.
Certainly no more broken then the H1/O1 Time Warp/Skip. They are infinately more useful. Do you ban those as well?

I never said I banned Supermodel, just that I liked playing her. The balancing factor for an H1/O1 is that the H1 is only playable on your turn without the aid of other cards, and the O1 can only be played on your opponents cards, and they both only last for one turn.
I tend to think all cards with an ability that can be used every turn are broken if it forces an opponent to repeatedly make card plays to stop its use without being able to destroy the card. There are locations immune to occurences/hazards/monsters where she can be played, and if you slap a B1 Pirate Outpost on it, it's very hard to land a crew attack there.

My response wasn't a direct response to you, but rather an open discussion.
There are very few cards that I would outright ban. Marine Outpost is one. Time Accelerant is another. I can't think of any others. I wouldn't even ban Reactonary Worlds or the H1/O1s.

So, shoot it with weapons fire. :)

You'd need a pirate/police ship in order to do that, which is what makes the card tricky. ;)

No monsters in your deck? To quote Jimbo Jones from South Park "You're hysterical, you're not making any sense!!!"
I never said the supermodel was broken, just highly powerful for what it is, that's all.

Not everyone in my group plays monsters. I usually stock at least a luck
demon or temporal conscience but that's it if I'm focusing my deck in other
directions. An evolved supermodel would cause some interesting imperial
negotiations. Especially with penguins in play.
My earlier comment was that in keeping with the CC spirit I would have
expected the model to have some wierd counter rule such as 'may only be
engaged when a crew of greater strength is at location' or 'discarded by a
pizza delivery alien or bartender at location'.

Well, a Media Personality would "disengage" a SuperModel, no matter what
strength she was, though I still say "disengage" isn't the right terminology
for describing what happens in that case.
Lately I've become quite fond of using T3 Vacation Planets and C3 Media
Personalities...

They're both very useful cards. Most people in my group run them, I've yet to find a better C3.
