-Howdy folks. Reading the R/H2 Time Trap card recently, i wondered aloud if the following scenario is a legal card play. Feel free to throw tomatoes at me if i am missing an obvious answer here:

C3 Cryo Convict plays to any location without a Penal Colony. I play the Convict to my opponents terrain, say a T5 Galactic Trade World. During my opponents following allocation phase, i react to his allocation by playing my R/H2 Time Trap to *my* Cryo Convict. Is that legal, and if so does that them Time Trap the entire stack and prevent my opponent from using the terrain?

I know that i can only play the Time Trap to cards in my fleet, but the Cryo Convict doesn't specifically say it is played 'outside' of my fleet. Or is any card of mine played to an opponent location automatically no longer in my fleet?

Thanks in advance for your assuredly wise answers and wisecracks, have a good week all.....Lobo

No, it traps your crew and anything on your crew. The crew is the bottom of the effected stack. Not the terrain, which is one level lower.

All of the cards that you play are in your fleet, even, i believe, if they are controlled by another player. One of the things that we were trying to do with Universe is to get a consistant terminology. The Convict is is in your fleet. It is also in play against your opponent's terrain.

-Thanks for the reply. I'm dropping my cryos out of the particular deck i'm playing right now for alternative crew. Not that i still don't love them but i'm getting away from resource denial for my Tufor attempt and going a different direction.....Lobo

resource denial is actually a decent strategy in a duel, but there are better cards then the convict to do it with.

-I was using some other cards for resource denial but i found that the cards i was using were only effective if drawn and used in the first couple of rounds i.e. Shipping delays, Cryo convicts, Time Trap/Skip a Terrain, etc.

I know i saw a lot more O cards for resource denial as well as other categories but i didn't really tune in on it for my Tufor deck. Thus, i'm just scrapping that idea for now and looking more at streamlining the card choices, focusing more on boosting my abilities with support cards rather than attacking i.e. Lucky Maneuver instead of Defensive Override.

I am keeping some monsters, however, as they round out my category requirements. I'll post the deck after modification and a bit of play this next week for suggestions.....Lobo

It might just be that you don't have access to all of the cards, but I think you just need cards that are better than the ones you listed.

I am sure you know about Scandig Blobs, but are you using?:

A3 Terrestrial Overgrowth
A6 Pirate Currency
A9 Antimatter Equivalent
A10 Urban Influence
O2 Comet Impact (or O2 Natural Disaster)
O4 Invasion
O4 Flood
O5 Political Upheaval
O6 Blockade
O6 Broken Supply Lines
R/O6 Cessation of Engagement
R/O7 Cessation of Production
O7 Interplanetary Conflict
O8 Economic Crisis
O8 Planetary Revolt
O10 Planetary Destruction :)
H1 The Old Switcheroo
H3 Nuclear Incident
H4 Sargassos
M4 Harvesters
M6 Vymezies Blaze

Instead of a Time Skip, try a O1 Sun Spot. Sure it can only effect the lowest strength terrain card, but it has the added ability to negate a point of damage, and it isn't a Time Card.

In addition to denial of production, you should try denying card plays.

R/O1 Time Compression
O3 Bureaucracy
R/O4 Cessation of Events

It doesn't really matter how many cards your opponent draws if he can only play two of them a turn. Period.

Also, limit his command points with:
O6 Fleet Disjunction

oh, and just to point out...

I *HATE* denial decks.

But, of course now I will have to build one. :)

-I have some of those in sufficient multiples and have used a few in previous decks (particularly the Time Compression, Flood, and Sargassos) to good effect. As i said, i wasn't actively trying for a strong denial deck during my first run at the Tufor. I certainly do appreciate the run-down though (as i'm sure others do as well), as when i return to looking at it i have a good guide of cards to start with.

The one i have tried including lots of and found it failed was the Sun Spot. Well, didn't fail, but wasn't all that helpful in the few games i ran it in. Again, though, it wasn't coupled with multiple denial sources so i may need to re-examine it in line with that thinking.

Thanks again, have a good one.....Lobo

yeah, as a card by itself Sun Spot cannot compete with Time Skip, but not many cards can.

But, in a deck designed to deprive your opponent, it might be worth it.

But, honestly... there isn't any reason not to run the Time Skip. There just is not enough of a deterent not to.

Reaching back into his deep memory... dredging past the rust and accumulated debris Galaktische vaguely recalls that he promised not to run a resource denial deck against Lobo because it is too strong in a duel. In a similar vein he recalls promising not to use the C5 Time Knight...

:)

Actually, I don't mind at all. The more strategies the better.
