I was reading the rules for there and back missions in GF#2 and found something I'd like your opinion on.

The rules clearly say that "Both shuttles and transporters may transport through opponent shield unless the card performing the transportation specifically says otherwise."

Ok, that makes sense to me but the rules also say that, "Fighters are a subset of shuttles."

Does this mean that fighters can transport a crew on a there and back mission through an enemy's shields?

Thanks for you input.

Some fighters say they can transport a crew, and some Luck and Hazard cards say they only affect shuttles. Maybe that rule was added to make fighters susceptible to stuff that hits shuttles, because there's almost no reason to run straight-up shuttles over fighters?

I don't know if there are any fighters that don't have the clause, but only fighters that say they can transport crew, can transport crew. Hell, even the E8 Assault Fighter has the clause.

As a side note the Scorpead Stinger does not follow the rules and is not classified as a shuttle, fighter, or transport.

So a fighter that doesn't specifically say it cannot, can deliver a hit and run mission through an enemy's shields?

-Edited because it ain't worth the argument. GF clearly states in intro paragraph to shuttles that fighters are a type of shuttle and by reference can transport through shields.....Lobo

I don't know of any shuttle, fighter, transporter, that cannot go through shields.

There might be one, but it is easily replaced with a card that does, so what is the point.

R/E1 a& R/E2 Transporter can't go through shield.

The main advantage of shuttles over fighters is that shuttles can carry more crew cards around. Most fighters are limited to one crew, with the R/E7 Heavy Fighter allowing two crew to be moved but only one on a TNB mission; the R/E8 Assault Fighter allows two crew. The Empire fighters are all limited to one crew. The shuttles can move 3 & 5 crew around at a time.

And, you can substitute a R/E1 Terrain Attack Shuttle for the R/E1 Civilian Transporter (and get a second function out of the deal)

And, substitute a R/E2 Clown Car for the R/E2 Transporter. Not only can you performa there and back mission without having to worry about shields, but you can also tranport 20+ Mimes.

Okay, okay, you would use a R/E2 Transport Shuttle instead. ;)
