With everyone building Pirate Decks, I wanted to get your impressions on using Leopans instead of the traditional Pirate empires. They can steal Crew and Equipment. And I think we included a card in there somewhere so they can raid and steal their engagement like normal pirates as well.

-Well, i'm only constructing a pirate deck as i don't have enough cards of any other empire to do anything different. As for Leopans, i like the idea of their crew being more involved in the theme for crew capture, and i think i may actually own a card or two that goses along with the capture theme.

As for stealing engagement, i don't think i have a Leopan specific card but there's always the O6 Resource Theft for the ships. I'll have to look at Leopan again, everyone says their shields are strong but if they are tougher to repair than normal shields may not be as beneficial in larger games. Armor Systems are tougher to repair than normal shields, but there is multiple cards that allow repairs to be done.

Think of them as Mechad nodes that you don't have to pump full of energy each round.

P.S. You *don't* have to activate the armor system if you don't want to. Say an opponent fires enough to kill your ship, don't activate the A.S. (hmmm, my initails, go figure), and play a Repair Delivery or similar card to bring your ship back from the brink of destruction and then you still have your A.S.

I've been slowly working on a Leopan deck for a while, but still haven't
gotten all the things I want to have for it.

My planned strategy to repair armor was to put a T7 Nebula or T8
Operations planet in my reserve with an A7 Urbanization to generate extra
repair for armor systems.

Exact details have been lost since it has been 10 years since we have done any planning. We created the Cyber expansion, but lost it in a hard drive mishap.

We would have continued growing the Leopans as an empire that specialized in piracy. Focusing primarily on the crew, and the different feline races. I forget which card has the Black Panther, but i think it was a pirate of some sort. The raiding parties all belonged to one race, etc.

We would have expanded on the Zedan empire as well, since they are closely tied to the Leopans.

about lower strength phaser resonators? It's such a shame that they're
8's. I'd think that as an 8 they wouldn't be discarded after use. Maybe
there should be a 4 strength that does get discarded while the 8 stays on
the ship.

Some kind of equipment card that hardens their armor would be cool too,
so that it's not reduced when its strength is exceeded...

Or how about something that polarizes their armor so they take half
damage from a volley; it could be an R/E3 and be functionally the same as
an R/L 3 Unlucky Targeting except it would be an equipment card that
would be exclusive tech to Leopans...

A S10 Leopan Flagship? While there were no designs in the immediate future, it wouldn't have been out of the question. I don't know though, I think we were limiting the Invader empires.

Do you have the text for the E8? The database doesn't say that it is discarded after use.

I don't think we would've "hardened" their armor, but we would have made it a little easier to repair. Probably with a crew card.

I don't have the text of the card readily available, but I do have a strong
recollection that the phaser resonater is discarded after use; I could be
wrong though.

In terms of repair, I don't see why it wouldn't be acceptable for things like
a Repair Delivery, or and Emergency Damage Control Team, etc to repair
armor systems. I don't recall there's anything on those kinds of cards that
specifies their repair must be on structure or shields.

I think something like the following would be really cool for Leopans:

E3 Armor Polarization
Engagement Cost: 3 energy
Card Text: Leopan engineers developed a system of increasing the
effectiveness of an armor system by energizing it with highly polarized
charged particles.
-Played only to a ship with an armor system
-Armor system prevents double its current strength in damage from any
weapons volley.
-Discarded after use.

Yes, i think a terrain can support more than one base. I don't think I've seen many people ever do it. maybe too many eggs in one basket. Maybe there is a rule in the rulebook somewhere that I don't see/don't remember.

The T4 White Dwarf combines with the second terrain, so while there might be two T cards there, it is still only one terrain.

As far as I know you can have as many bases on a terrain as you can play.  But remember they still take up command points.  Also take into account the teraain modification rule where only the  greatest multiplier works if the bases each have a multiplier.

OK, something about this combination bugged me at first, and I finally realized what it is. The T7 Leopan Nebula states that "Any repair point from this terrain..." but the repair points from the Repair Base and Repair Skid are *NOT* from that terrain, they're from the base, so may not be used to fix Leopan Armor Systems.

Now, the T4 White Dwarf and T1 Planetary Storm work well, as does any base that gives an Economy Point Modifier to the T7 Leopan Nebula (e.g. the T1 Military/Commercial Outposts).
