-Howdy all. I recently came into a few unopened boxes of the Primary set for GE. No, i didn't pay much of anything for them, no worries. I was considering takign Galaktische up on an offer of a booster draft duel and wanted to get feedback from  y'all on how best to implement this particular style of game.

I haven't done a booster draft in well over a decade, and never for GE. So if any of you out there have any experience with this format i would appreciate any tall tales, short stories, or other illuminating tidbits you may be able to offer. You know, how you did it, deck size, how it played out, all that fun stuff.

Thanks in advance, have a good day.....Lobo, asking the questions that no one else cares about

Once we tried something simuliar.  We started with a starter deck( 100 cards specific empire)  then we each opened 5 ( maybe 10) boosters and created a 150 card deck max.  we toyed with the idea of using boosters only, but the attempt was deemed difficult to get one race strong enuff.

Of course  you could just throw out all the deck stock rules and racial content, choose 10 packs which would give you a 140 card deck, discarding 40 of those would put you at a 100 card deck which could always prove interesting.

I am sure we used Universe boosters, though primary would only limit the number of races.

-Thanks for the reply. I had considered proposing that we decide on a certain "starter deck" format (such as making a 40 card deck of whatever empire we wish) and supplimenting the deck with boosters. Or perhaps come in with 5-10 terrain and 5-10 ships of your choice and use the boosters to suppliment that. Still not sure, tis why i search for feedback on something that may have worked in the past.

All-out booster from the start could be interesting, but i'd be inclined to at least let the players stock their reserve fleet out of their collection to make up for possible bad ratios on draws for ships and terrain. We'll see, if we end up doing it i'll report how it went.....Lobo

if you just did boosters your terrain will most likely suffer greatly.

So how many cards are you coming in with before the draft? 10 non-promo terrains?

-I am bringing ships (one each Strength 1 thru Strength 9 Independent/Generic) and terrain (one each Strength 1 thru Strength 9 generic no promo no special abilities to speak of) to fill in gaps. Obviously not required to use them all but there just in case.

First game (that i deleted the report on, no worries won't do it for the next one) i made the mistake of including the S9 without seeing if the terrain would actually power it. It was tough as only two terrain in my whole deck would allow me to do it. So this time i did not include the Strength 7 thru 9 ships i had brought, and cut out a few terrain to keep the deck right at 40 cards.

It works well but i don't think we have to go all the way to Strength 9 after playing a couple times. 1-5 would be adequate if we wanted/felt it needed scaled back, though that may make terrain destruciton a more viable strategy if the bigger strength terrain is left out. Not a bad thing, just an aside really.....Lobo
